The Royal Castle Hotel Ltd
Lonely Planet review
The Castle has stood plum on Dartmouth's waterfront for 500 years. The library is full of battered, leather-bound books, timbers from a Spanish man-o-war prop up the bar, and antique chaises longues, massive carved chairs and velvet curtains dot the rooms. Pack a copy of Agatha Christie's Ordeal by Innocence; the crime writer used the hotel as inspiration for the Royal George in the novel.

Area informationDartmouth is a unique town full of old narrow streets with boutique shops, art galleries and delicatessens. The surrounding countryside and the coastline mean that the area has a wide variety of activities to offer, including sailing, fishing and boat tours. You could visit the town at festival time or take the steam train to Paignton. Dartmouth Castle, the Britannia Royal Naval College and many National Trust Gardens are all within easy reach. You could also walk the famous South West Coast Path or, if all that sounds a bit too active, you could simply laze on the area’s beautiful clean beaches.
Important informationDuring Christmas, New Year, Easter, Music Festivals, Dartmouth Regatta, the hotel will apply different payment and cancellation policies. The hotel does not accept payments by American Express card.
