Traditional British restaurants in England

  1. A

    Chop House

Set on the busy corner of Kings Pde and Bene't St, this place has wooden floors, giant windows overlooking the street, and – true to the name – a menu of classic, meat-heavy English cuisine. If you're craving sausage and mash, a sizzling steak, suet pudding, fish pie or potted ham, look no further. Sister restaurant St John’s Chop House has the same menu and is located near the rear entrance to St John’s College.

    Old Fire Engine House

Backed by beautiful gardens and showcasing a variety of artwork, this delightfully homey place, which has been run by the same husband-and-wife team for over 40 years, serves classic English food, prepared from seasonal local ingredients, and excellent afternoon teas. Expect the likes of steak-and-kidney pie or rabbit with prunes and bacon, washed down with a carefully chosen wine.
