Taman Gang
This basement restaurant just metres from the traffic chaos of Marble Arch is an oasis of tranquillity, suffused with incense and buzzing with a smart yet surprisingly informal Park Lane crowd. The interesting menu fuses Indonesian and Malaysian with Chinese and Japanese classics. On our last visit, the crispy aromatic duck roll was superb, while honey-glazed lamb cutlets with crispy lotus was of a similarly high standard but low size.

Cinnamon Cay
This neighbourhood restaurant offers a lively atmosphere, small open kitchen and Southeast Asian-influenced fusion. The Thai fish cake with mango salad and the sesame-crusted seared tuna with piperade are favourites and vegetarians are well catered for with such tasty exotica as Penang laksa with pumpkin, tofu and okra. Service is efficient and friendly.

Ithaca
A new Asian experience spread over four floors, you'll find well-made Japanese (including excellent sushi) on the first two floors, and a Bangkok-style cocktail lounge on the 3rd floor, with an eye-catching solid, black-glass oval bar. The top floor is a members' club.

This global bistro takes a mix-and-match approach to its wide-ranging cuisine - for starters you might choose falafels, spring rolls or Yakitori chicken, with Malaysian noodles, Thai curry or chicken schnitzel to follow.

Ditch the Chinese dragons and paper lanterns - this resolutely modern noodle bar brings the Oriental experience bang up-to-date, with a menu of Szechuan, Hong Kong and Canton flavours as well as Chinese classics.

Zen Noodle Bar
Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe this sleek and contemporary Japanese restaurant in light. The menu also features Thai and Chinese rice dishes and a tempting array of starters for sharing. It's a busy place with long communal tables, but there's plenty of space and a relaxed atmosphere.

Tokyou
Cheap, healthy Asian cuisine from Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea; whether takeaway or eat-in (at long picnic-style benches), the food is terrific.

Tigers Eye
This place attempts to please everyone with a menu that veers from baguettes and wraps to sushi, noodles and Black Rock grills (where you cook your own meat or fish on a sizzling volcanic plate). It's a strange mix, but somehow it manages to work and the food is some of the best in town.

Surin Restaurant
Ramsgate is an unlikely spot to eat some of the best Thai, Cambodian and Laotian food this side of the Hindu Kush, but sure enough, the tasty menu in this restaurant delivers. The restaurant is a dumpling's throw from the seafront and even serves its own label of microbrewed beers.

Spice Lodge
This pan-Asian restaurant has a full menu of Indian and Thai dishes, but the real draw is the menu du jour, which features European classics cooked with an Asian twist. Set in an imposing old mansion, it's a relaxed but elegant place to dine.
