Lonely Planet review for Masquerade Bar

There's no discernible gay quarter in Liverpool, with most of the gay-friendly clubs and bars spread about Dale St and Victoria St in Ropewalks. The Masquerade Bar attracts a real mix of gays, lesbians and bi's looking for a few laughs and a sing-song.

The friendliest gay bar in Liverpool!

    deano1 recommends this,

The Masquerade is a real gay Liverpool institution and rightly claims to be the friendliest gay bar in town. Great owners (Phil and Jeff), chatty bar staff and friendly punters.

Open longer than most other gay bars in Liverpool. Opens at 11.00am Monday to Saturday (12.00 noon on Sundays) and stays open until late.

Fairly quiet during the day, so good for a quiet drink and a chat. Gets lively from Happy Hour onwards (5.00 to 7.00pm ... cheap drinks!!!).

Some type of entertainment most nights from DJs and Karaoke on week days to drag cabaret and drag DJ at the weekends.

Close to Moorfields Railway Station (Wirral and Northern Lines), the bus stops on Sir Thomas Street & Dale Street and there is a taxi rank nearby.

The 'Mazzy' (as folks like to call it) is on Cumberland Street - this runs between Dale Street and Victoria Street. Close to other gay bars, pubs and clubs. E.g. the Poste House is also on Cumberland Street and the Lisbon pub is just round the corner on Victoria Street.

If you want to have a look at how the Masquerade bills itself, have a look at their website (complete with camp disco music!!!!). www.masqueradeliverpool.com
