North York Moors National Park
Newcastle & the Northeast
There's more to the wild and windswept hills and deep green valleys of the North York Moors than merely reenacting Wuthering Heights. Between July and early September, heather blooms bright pink and mauve. The Moors also make fine cycling country, with quiet lanes and scenic roads over the hills, plus there are over 1400 miles (2300km) of walking paths.
