Lonely Planet review for Brunswick Centre

This now wonderful 1960s complex consists of apartments, restaurants, shops and a cinema. A £24-million project transformed it from a dreary, stern space to a lovely, cream-coloured airy square in 2006, and the centre is now packed with people seven days a week. The original architect, Patrick Hodginson, worked on the renovations and claimed that the centre now looks like what he’d planned in the ‘60s, but that the design was stunted by the local council. Lost it's soul.

    rocketbabydoll does not recommend this,

I knew Brunswick both before and after the renovation project and although the place looks cleaner and all the vacant lots are occupied it has sold it's soul to the big corporations. Now this location is full of every major chain eatery instead of independantly owned businesses. Yes there are now a few fancy clothes shops and a french chocolate shop but that is all. If you want to get off the beaten track and located a Yo Sushi!, a GBK, or a Giaraffe then go. Otherwise I wouldn't bother, let the locals here live in piece and mourn the loss of character to the area.
