Deptford & New Cross
Lonely Planet review for Deptford & New Cross
In recent years Deptford and its southern extension, New Cross, just over the Deptford Creek west of Greenwich, have been experiencing something of a renaissance with the advent of music studios and shops, art galleries, the celebrated Laban dance institute and other cultural centres and creative outlets. The Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe was stabbed to death here during a drunken brawl. To see the neighbourhood up close and dirty, take a walk.
