This match made in heaven – London’s most celebrated chef in arguably its grandest hotel – will make you weak at the knees. A meal in the gorgeous art deco dining room is a special occasion indeed; the Ramsay flavours will have you reeling, from the pressed foie gras marinated in white port and the cannon of salt marsh lamb with crystallised walnuts and cumin, all the way to the cheese trolley, whether you choose the one with French, British or Irish number plates. Consider the six-course tasting menu (£80).

    If you're looking for a special dining experience in London this is the place to come. You couldn't get a more quintessentially English atmosphere and everything about Claridge's is top class, from the beautiful lobby before you're seated - where a number of City fat cats appear to be perennially enjoying the good life with their friends - to the waiters and, last but not least, the food. As you would expect, the ingredients are top quality. What I didn't expect was that the dishes would be inventive. Pork fillet with crayfish and peach, for example, was a welcome twist to the ultimate classic restaurant menu. For anyone who appreciates old-world grandeur and fine dining, this is definitely the place to come.
