Lonely Planet review for Ledbury
Michelin starred and swooningly elegant, Brett Graham’s artful French restaurant attracts a well-heeled local clientele who wear jeans with designer jackets. To beat the credit crunch, go for the set- price menu.

Quality meets value and makes beautiful, cheap music
thefakefoodie recommends this,
I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Ledbury. It serves French-inspired food, is run by an Australian, rated #36 in the world, and just before my visit is was awarded a second Michelin star and named as London top eating spot by the National Restaurant Awards. But with a lunch menu priced at 33.50 for 3 courses, I was concerned that I might be getting the second-class dishes, the matinee rather than the evening performance.
The Ledbury is a bit of a walk from Notting Hill tube, but the stroll is beautiful, and by the time I arrive I feel like all the streets have been carefully arranged to form a long driveway leading to this charming but unassuming restaurant, far from the touristic Portobello Road, in the heart of residential Notting Hill.
The best: I found it almost impossible to choose my favourite of these dishes. Each one pleased in a different way, and none were disappointments. the cod was the dish I enjoyed most, both for its presentation and its flavour. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, yes, crisp skin, moist flesh, but the side of sea-urchin puree, prawns, mussels and micro-herbs made it one of the msot aesthetically incredible dishes I have seen. After eating every last bit of the generous serving, I even contemplated skipping dessert, I was so satisfied.
The verdict: When the bill came to GBP45 (including tip) I felt like I was cheating the restaurant out of about 50 quid… So far, the best value meal i have eaten.
