Lonely Planet review for Hakkasan
This basement restaurant – hidden down a most unlikely back alleyway – successfully combines celebrity status, stunning design, persuasive cocktails and surprisingly sophisticated Chinese food. It was the first Chinese restaurant to receive a Michelin star. The low, nightclub-style lighting (lots of red) makes it a good spot for dating, while the long, glitzy bar is a great place for truly inventive cocktails. For dinner in the formal main dining room you’ll have to book far in advance and no doubt be allocated a two-hour slot. Do what savvy Londoners do and have lunch in the more informal Ling Ling lounge.

The food and crowd have dropped in quality
adonald does not recommend this,
On a recent business to London I visited Hakkasan, and I must say the crowd is no longer the same what it was in its initial years. On a Friday night, the restaurant still seemed to be doing reasonably well with its regular clientele of middle aged bankers... but it was the bar that appeared to have noisy and extremely inappropriate people around.
The food is also no where near the great food they used to serve... and I returned my chilean sea bass half eaten. The duck salad as well was nothing to write home about.
I dont mind paying the prices Hakkasan charges (which are astronomical), but I except good food at the very least.

Wow...but expensive
ameliefan recommends this,
We had our favourite meal in the whole world here so I have to rate it 5 stars, but would give it more if I could.
Yes it's pricey - we managed to blow just under £150 on our meal - but the food is incredible.
I'd read some bad reviews about the service but it was great the night we went. The only thing was that the lighting is too low for my liking, but that's only a small thing.
The Dim Sum is the best I've ever had and the coctails delicious.
I can recommend the sea bass in honey. The portion size was huge. And, can I also recommend the pistachio chocolate dessert - heaven.
We spent a lot of money but next time we go back we want to just have the Dim Sum and a cocktail each - much cheaper but you get a good taste of the Hakkasan vibe.Good for: Romance, atmosphere, food, service, Families

Excellent

I went to Hakkasan a few weeks ago. I thought I was going to a just another good chinese restaurant! But the moment I went inside..wow! Beautiful! Bar-club lights and nice music.. I tried a coctail, loved it! And then the food. Best Peking duck I ve ever had.. Crispy noodles, delicious.. all accompanied by excellent service and very nice atmosphere. This restaurant has now become one of my favourites.
