This wonderful Japanese restaurant tucked away inside the vibrant and energetic hub of Brixton serves large bowls of ramen broth that really warm the cockles on a cold and wet English winter night.  The large communal benches and tables never feel too constrictive and the other clientele are always only too happy to shuffle along and make room.

Their extensive selection of sushi and sashimi is beautifully fresh and who knew there were so many different varieties of miso soup available? The large servings of main courses cover all aspects of Japanese cooking including rice dishes, noodle dishes, curries and bento boxes. Vegetarians are well catered for with a clearly labelled menu and veggie versions of all dishes available – I can highly recommend the Tofu & Vegetable Croquette Bento Box… mmm yum!

Fujiyamas is great for any occasion.  I attended a party once in the small upstairs function room which had been hired out by a friend. Everyone sat on the floor at low long tables on large cushions, listening to music the host had brought with them on the stereo provided by the restaurant. A romantic meal for two is also lovely here, as long as you’re willing to share your bench space with others. Ultimately though, there’s nowhere better to meet friends for a meal before heading down Coldharbour Lane to see a film at the Ritzy Cinema. The perfect night out.
