Lonely Planet review for Churchill Arms

This traditional English pub is renowned for its Winston memorabilia, chamber pots, golf bags suspended from the ceiling and butterflies under glass. It’s a favourite of both locals and tourists (what either group makes of the Winnie/lepidopterous connection is anyone’s guess), and you’ll have to fight your way through scrums of punters at the horseshoe-shaped bar for a pint. The attached conservatory has been serving excellent Thai food for two decades.

Churchill Thai Kitchen, Quick, Cheap and Quirky

    cazzp recommends this,

In at 7, out at 8, well from the table anyway. Once visited you understand why there is an hour's limit to being at the dining table. This place is popular and I recommend you book at least a day in advance. The service is brilliant, the basic, but tasty menu in your hand as you walk in the garden decorated restaurant, shown your seat and then as the choice is easy (whatever you decide will be great) a decision is quickly made, your order taken and time to head to the bar for a round of drinks.
Those in hand and a catch up with guests, the meal is produced, smells tantalising your taste buds and eager to dig in. With all dishes £6, small in price but not in quantity, you will enjoy every mouthful in these credit crunch times.
The atmosphere is a pleasant mixture between a pub and a restaurant, with the meals area separate from the pub but full of people having a great time, perfect for groups of friends catching up and for time-conscience people wanting to enjoy a meal out.
The hour roles along, the plates are cleared and you are kindly given the bill as a sign to move on. That’s fine, by now you are full of Thai food, had your few drinks, caught up with friends and can either find a place at the bar to continue socialising or call it a night.
Highly recommended, well impressed and the best Thai I have had in years! - All for £6, can’t beat that.
