Captain Kidd
Good for: Groups, views
Lonely Planet review for Captain Kidd
With its large windows, fine beer garden and mock scaffold recalling the hanging nearby of the eponymous pirate in 1701, this is a favourite riverside pub in Wapping that only dates back to the 1980s. There’s a restaurant predictably called the Gallows on the 1st floor.

Good for groups and views, but better pubs nearby

As a former Wapping resident, I've explored all of the local riverside pubs. The Captain Kidd is a nice spot: great views of the river, a lot of outside seating for those rare but magnificent warm days on the Thames, and they know a thing or two about food. That said, I personally prefer the ambiance of some of the classic old riverside pubs nearby: The Town of Ramsgate first and foremost, the Grapes in Limehouse, or even the slightly kitschy but still comfortable Prospect of Whitby.
