Pedalabikeaway
There is a number of excellent cycling trails around the Forest of Dean, varying from tranquil family-friendly jaunts of several miles to longer and more demanding circuits. Pedalabikeaway hires out both leisure bikes – including tandems and buggies for kids -–and full suspension mountain bikes, and sells maps and gives advice on cycling routes. Here you’ll also find a downhill bike park with nine demanding trails for experienced riders; cycling tours can also be arranged on request.

Dean Forest Railway
This short stretch of rail between Lydney and Parkend is plied by six classic steam engines on select days from March to December, as well as a special treat for children – Thomas the Tank Engine – making the occasional guest appearance. The standard ride is 28 minutes long, but there are lots of special events organised by the railway – from Sunday luncheons in 1st-class carriages to ‘drive you own steam engine’ experiences; book in advance.
