Lonely Planet review
This redbrick pile commands a super spot over the main market square, and in its heyday must have offered Edwardian splendour aplenty. It's been modernised in standard chain-hotel style, so the rooms are well-equipped but disappointingly dull – although the reception area and central staircase still look rather grand.
Our independent authors have visited Crown & Mitre and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Carlisle.
