Parque Nacional Los Volcanes Getting there & around

Getting there & around

It's imperative you get to the park by 11am because the guided hikes leave only once a day. The easiest, surest way is to make the trip from Santa Ana, where bus 248 goes all the way to the entrance. The last bus normally leaves the park at 5pm, but always confirm this with the bus driver when you arrive in the morning, as service can vary. Otherwise, you can catch a bus to El Congo (last one at 5pm) and transfer to a Santa Ana bus (or one for San Salvador, if that's your destination). Verify these times when you get to the park, especially if you think you'll be there late.

From San Salvador, you run the risk of missing a connection and therefore the hike. Leave early. Take any bus to Santa Ana and disembark at El Congo on the Carr Panamericana; walk uphill to the overpass and catch bus 248. Ask to be sure you're in the right place.

If you're driving, Parque Nacional Los Volcánes is 67km from San Salvador along the Sonsonate route, or 77km by the more scenic Carr Panamericana toward Santa Ana.
