Getting there & around

Buses line up along Av Menéndez at 10a Calle Ote. Microbuses to Apaneca leave from the highway turnoff, but regular buses are usually faster and leave more frequently. Buses for the Guatemalan border at Las Chinamas leave from 8a Calle Pte, at the northwest corner of Parque Menéndez. The following destinations are served from Ahuachapán:

AtacoTake any Sonsonate bus (US$0.35, 25 minutes).

Juayu'aTake any Sonsonate bus (US$0.70, 55 minutes).

Las Chinamas Bus 263 (US$0.50, 40 minutes, every 15 minutes from 6am to 5pm); or Ruta 11 (US$0.50, 30 minutes, every 10 minutes from 4:50am to 7:40pm).

San Salvador Bus 202 (ordinario US$1, 2¼ hours, every 10 minutes from 3:30am to 5pm; clase-A US$1.40, 1½ hours, every 15 to 20 minutes from 4:45am to 7:30am daily and 3pm to 5:15pm Sunday only; especial US$2, 1¼ hours, every 15 minutes from 5am to 6am daily, and 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1pm Friday to Sunday).

Santa Ana Bus 210 (US$0.45, one hour, every 10 minutes from 4:10am to 7:15pm); alternatively take the faster San Salvador bus, get off at Metrocentro and catch a local bus into town.

Sonsonate Bus 249 ($0.83, two hours, every 15 minutes from 4:30am to 6pm).

Tacuba Bus 264 or Ruta 15 (US$0.50/$0.60 weekday/weekend, 40 minutes, every 15 to 30 minutes from 5:30am to 7pm) Note: Ruta 15 until 4:30pm only.
