Hidden Gem- Barra de Santiago?

Wondering if anybody has any insight on the Barra de Santiago area. Of course, there is that pricey hotel to stay there, as well as the Capricho guest house which looks not too bad. Im just wondering if the Barra area is a place that you can just show up for a few days and enjoy the quiet Pacific. Im guessing that there is a few other low key, simple places to stay and a few simple restaurants. Any thoughts? Thanks, Chris and Vani

Anybody need a ride across southern Honduras?

To anyone currently in El Salvador...

We're in El Cuco, El Salvador, on our Pan-American road trip from Oregon to Argentina in our Toyota 4Runner. My wife couldn't get a visa to Nicaragua – they told her it'd take 4 months (what?) – so she'll be flying from San Salvador to San Jose, Costa Rica, while I drive across Honduras and Nicaragua. Which means I've got 1 seat available to anyone who's also passing through, or stopping anywhere along the way. (Or 1 seat and 2 "spaces," if you want to ride…

The place to go

After seeing the lack of questions posted here, it has only confirmed that El Salvador is the next destination for me. My thought is that only surfers head here and people that decide to 'check it out' as a part of their Central America trip. Which is great news for us travellers that have more that a few days for the country (we have about 3.5 weeks).
Anyway, a few questions, our route is basically planned out but nothing is really carved in stone.
1. Does anybody have any good volcano hiking…

Itinerary advice

Hi Everyone!

Me & a friend (2 girls, mid 20s) will be travelling to El Salvador Dec 14 - Jan 1st. We have already visited Belize, Guatemala and Panama in Central America. We want to take it easy, spend some time at the beach relaxing and surfing, we would also like to do some hiking (a volcano would be nice) and see some colonial towns and Maya ruins. From what I have read, the San Miguel area has all of these things in close distance so we were thinking of spending the majority of our time…

Guides for Cerro Verde & El Impossible Parks

We are traveling to El Salvador as a family and I'm trying to figure out what guides to line up. We'd like to visit Cerro Verde. I hear there are guides for tours if we just show up but do they speak English and what time should we arrive? Is it better to reserve a guide in advance (I hate to pay for a second guide if you have to take a guide provided by the park anyhow).

As for El Impossible... I hear the road to the main entrance is bumpy and since we're driving our own vehicle I was going…

13 hour Layover in El Salvador

Hello, I wanted to leave my experience of my most recent trip to El Salvador. I had a 13 hour layover at the Mons Romero Intl Airport in El Salvador and I hate waiting at airports so I decided to go out and visit the most important attractions in El Salvador. I contacted several tour operators and received a really quick answer from elsalvadorcustomtours.com . I chose them because of their efficiency. I received an itinerary of possible locations to visit, timeframes, distances and estimated…

Volunteer Opportunities for College Students

Hey everyone!

I am looking to find some volunteer work in the Summer of 2015 with an organization that my University has. Each year the organization completes around a week long mission/volunteer trip to a Central American country(last year it was Guatemala).
Is there any good places or people to get connected with to find some opportunities for us to do? Most of our group that conducts the annual volunteer trip are from Central America and are will to house us, we just need to find a few good…

La Union, El Salvador

La Union is by no means a destination...rather a transit city. So it really doesn´t get or deserve much attention. But I used it for a base to visit other islands and got to see what a city on the move...albeit slowly. They finished a 300 meter extension on the existing 200 meter muelle and they did a really nice job including a couple of dozen solar light towers. The new port is scheduled to open in the next year and they are repaving a number of roads...working from the square out.
They…
