Eastern El Salvador's most remarkable feature is the string of volcanoes jutting up from the otherwise broad flat valley: Volcán San Vicente (aka Chinchontepec), Volcán de Usulután, Volcán de Tecapa and Volcán de San Miguel (aka Chaparrasique), among many other smaller ones. The climate is similar to San Salvador, with the temperature dropping into the teens in the rainy winter season and pushing 40°C (104°F) in the dry summer season.
