My husband and I want to travel to El Salvador in November or December. He is from El Salvador which is why we're planning to go along with my mother in law. Their old neighborhood is no longer a safe area. I've read blogs about how El Tunco is a safe town...I'm wondering what other areas that are safe? Preferably as close to the airport as possible..We've also been looking at Suchitoto and thinking of renting a car. Is it safe to drive even an hour or 2 from the airport when we don't know…
We are visiting El Salvador for a week next August (2017) and have the option of extending the holiday for another week somewhere in central/South America. Only problem is there seems to be so much choice of what to do and where to go. Can anyone give any suggestions based on what would be easier/more accessible to do from El Salvador than from the uk? For example, we would not really be interested in something like a Caribbean cruise as this is something we could do easily from the uk…

Hi all, I was all pumped, planning a solo trip to El salvador for 10 days, then I talked to a Co worker that's El Salvadorian. He kept on telling me not to go and telling me that it's very dangerous.
I'm an experience solo male traveller, but not sure if I'm just being pig headed and stubborn. Backpackers that are there right now or has been recently, I need a current and realistic assessment to help me make up my mind please.
Hello, i'm trying to book a return flight Amsterdam-San Salvador and I cannot find a flight TO San Salvador for a reasonable price below 20 hours?? From San Salvador to Amsterdam is about 13 hours, but no matter which leaving day I choose, the flight from Amsterdam to San Salvador is minimum twice as long..
The plan is to travel for three weeks, so I thought of combining El Salvador with Guatemala or Honduras. Is it easier then to fly to Guatemala City or Tegucigalpa and leave from San Salvador…
My partner and I will be arriving in San Salvador June 29th at 9PM and were wondering the best way to get from the airport to El Tunco. I have heard that taxis are typically hesitant to drive there at that time of night, but wanted to know if other travellers have had success. Additionally, if there are any shuttle services that may do an airport pick up that information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help in advance!
Just wanted some ideas on an El Salvador itinerary - we will be entering El Salvador from Nicaragua (Leon) and want to finish by Copan Ruinas in Honduras. We have around 10 days for El Salvador - but this is certainly flexible.
In terms of interests -I think a fairly standard mix of culture, landscapes, heritage and beaches. Beaches are probably the least important though.
Here's what we were thinking.
Start in the Pacific Beaches - El Tunco (do a day trip to San Salvador…
Does anyone have any information on rock climbing in El Salvador? I know there is climbing at Puerta del Diablo (Devil's Gate), but I cannot find route information. Thank you in advance!
We'll be traveling to El Salvador from Guatemala in a few days. We'll be travelling east through El Salvador as we want to visit Perquin. However, there doesn't seem to be much information about the Sabanetas boring crossing into Honduras, which is right near Perquin and would save us from backtracking to get to another border crossing. We're fairly certain that this border can't be used to enter El Salvador, but can find no recent information confirming if it can be used to enter…
