Getting there & around

Direct buses reach San Vicente from a number of surrounding cities, including San Salvador, Usulután and Zacatecoluca. In some cases, it may be quicker to take any bus along the Carr Panamericana and get off at the turnoff to San Vicente. From there, pickups and local bus 157 zip up to town (US$0.20, 10 minutes, every 10 minutes until 9pm). Leaving San Vicente, the bus terminal is a dirt lot at the corner of 8a Calle Pte and 15 Av Sur, a long 10 blocks uphill from the parque central. Fortunately, all buses (except for bus 191 to Tepetitán) pass by the parque central on their way out of town, or you can beat the crowd by getting on a few blocks early - the corner of 6a Calle Ote and 2a Av Sur is a good spot. Again, you may save time by taking a pickup (or any passing bus) to the Carr Panamericana and catching a passing bus from there. Buses from San Vicente travel to the following destinations:

Costa del SolBus 193E; US$1.50, 2¼ hours, 5am, 6am, noon and 1pm; or take any Zacatecoluca bus and transfer

Ilobasco Bus 530; US$0.60, one hour, 6:50am, 11am and 4pm

Isla Montecristo/La PitaBus 158; US$1.75, two hours, 4:30am and 12:30pm; or take any Zacatecoluca bus to Carr Litoral, transfer to any eastbound bus to San Nicholas Lempa and transfer again to a La Pita-bound bus or truck

Nuevo TepetitánBus 191; US$0.34, 20 minutes, every 30 minutes from 5am to 6:45pm; catch bus on Calle Alvaro Quiñonez between 9a and 11 Avs Norte

Puerto El TriunfoTake any Usulután bus and transfer at the Jiquilisco turnoff

San Miguel Take bus 301 from the Carr Panamericana; US$1.50, 1½ hours, every 10 minutes, last bus at 6:30pm

San Salvador Bus 116; ordinario US$0.83, 1½ hours, every 10 minutes from 3am to 7pm; directo US$0.83, 5:25am, 5:50am, 6:10am, 6:50am, 4:10pm, 4:45pm and 5:20pm; or take bus 301 from the Carr Panamericana; US$0.75, 40 minutes, every 10 minutes, last bus at 6pm

Usulután Bus 417; US$1.25, 2½ hours, 4:45am, 6:15am, 7:05am, 7:45am, 11:30am and 1:30pm

Zacatecoluca Bus 177; US$0.60, 50 minutes, every 15 minutes from 5:30am to 6pm
