Weather
The highland areas of Morazán share the same mountain range - and the same climate - as other northern regions, like La Palma and Metapán. Temperatures average 12°C to 20°C (53°F to 68°F), but can get unexpectedly cold at night, especially in the rainy reason (May to November). The Río Torola divides the state into almost even halves, and was an important division during the war, when the FMLN controlled the northern half and the government the southern half. Guerrillas frequently bombed the bridge spanning the river, to impede government incursions into northern areas. The state's highest mountain, Cerro Cacahuatique, saw considerable fighting; today it is home to small communities of subsistence farmers, living in one of the country's most isolated and difficult-to-reach regions.
