I am planning on travelling by land through Europe and Africa, the only part of the trip I cannot work out is how to get to Egypt by land or sea from Europe. Any ideas, has anyone done this recently?

We are planning to catch the #86 Sleeping Train from Cairo to Luxor - but wanted to know if we could join the train at Giza. The "Man in Seat 61" indicates no stop at Giza, but I just wanted to check on that ? Thnx for your help.

We are planning to spend a five day camping/hotel trip going through the Western Desert Oases - but keep reading that the desert is closed to tourists. Can anyone advise if this is correct, or have you successfully entered the desert recently. Thnx for your replies

Hi. We are planning to take a Felucca from Aswan to Kom Ombo. I would like to stay the night in Kom Ombo and then go to see the Temple of Kom Ombo in the morning before leaving for Luxor.

Does this make sense? If not, what would be a better approach?

Can anyone recommend where to stay the night in Kom Ombo?

Does anyone know current status?

Alternatively, if someone overstays, what is the penalty? Are there problems checking into hotels or taking domestic flights?

Hope someone has some up to date information on this. I want to visit Cairo, rather than just the SInai area so want to get a proper Egyptian visa beforehand from a consulate / embassy.

Thanks,
C.

Evening,

From my intrepid googling see that you can (mostly) travel from Luxor to Aswan (4 nights), or reverse (3 nights). However there are SO MANY ships and tours with similar 'cute' names. Getting both a migraine and sense of hopelessness trying to find the right fit.

Just want a boat with a bit of style. I'm an older guy (DJ), so my Felucca days of pooping into camp-holes and being amused watching captains beat drums at night - are probably done. The Dahabiya look okay, but seem a bit like…

I have the entire month of October blocked off for this years trip: I land in Istanbul (I've been to Turkey several times) and plan to head to Sofia for three days to visit friends and then go to Athens to visit more friends for four more days. I will fly to Cairo from Athens and now the adventure begins. Must Sees in the Cairo region are the Pyramids, the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities and a side-trip to El Alamein. A trip to Luxor might happen, but it is not vital. I'd like to relax at the…

What are my travel options to get to Petra from Dahab? I've already contacted one of the companies in Dahab that do excursions to Petra, but they say they'll only do a return trip. For $25 they'll take me to Nuweiba port for the ferry to Aqaba though.. I'm a little reluctant to go that route on my own since no one seems to have anything good to say about the ferry and I don't know how difficult it would be while being weighed down with my suitcase to get transport for a fair price at Aqaba…
