Como el día anterior no habíamos hecho la subida al Monte Sinaí, Mohamed, uno de los empleados del hotel, nos recomendó hacer una excursión al cañón coloreado. Este cañón está situado a poco más de una hora de Nuweiba y, por tanto, se puede hacer la excursión en una mañana. Samer Aly, el propietario, nos comentó que él prefería el Rainbow Canyon, pero como está más lejos, es necesario hacer una excursión de un día entero. Al día siguiente íbamos a Petra, así que queríamos descansar un poco y por eso contratamos la excursión con el hotel.

DÍA 17: PETRA parte I

Ese día nos levantamos muy pronto porque teníamos por delante una jornada muy larga. Íbamos a Petra (Jordania) cruzando por carretera tres fronteras: Egipto, Israel y Jordania. No sabíamos cómo iba ir la cosa y, aunque teníamos el visado multientrada, al menos yo seguía con la duda de si realmente nos serviría de algo. El taxista no vino a la hora indicada, supuestamente por problemas con su coche y rápidamente el hotel mandó llamar a uno nuevo. Con eso salimos 45 minutos más tarde de lo previsto. Queríamos llegar pronto a las fronteras para evitarnos colas.

DÍA 19: ¡Y POR FÍN UN POQUITO DE RELAX!

Básicamente ese día fue el de la nada. La nada más absoluta. Habíamos aprendido la lección en Japón y en Egipto decidimos que al menos un día lo dedicaríamos a descansar. Nos levantamos y fuimos a desayunar con la calma. Mientras comíamos, todos los animales de las cercanías se nos acercaban para ver qué podían comer ellos. Ese día adopté a un gatito que estaba raquítico perdido y lo estuve alimentando y cuidando durante la semana que estuve allí.

DÍA 20: SANTA CATALINA Y EL MAL DE TUT

Esa mañana fuimos en taxi hasta el monasterio de Santa Catalina. Como de costumbre, después de desayunar nos vino a buscar el taxi. De Tarabeen hasta el monasterio de Santa Catalina hay unas dos horas más o menos. Normalmente lo que hace la gente es ascender al monte Sinaí de noche para ver el amanecer y después bajar para estar a las 9 am en el monasterio que es cuando abren. Lo que pasa es que yo estaba muy cansada y no me vi con ánimos ningún día y finalmente decidimos ir solamente a visitar el monasterio.

Seis de la mañana. Me despierto y el virus sigue haciendo de la suyas, pero al parecer ya estaba dando sus últimos coletazos. Harta de ir del baño a la cama y de la cama al baño, y viendo que parecía que el virus me estaba dando una tregua, salí a echarme en la tumbona al solete mientras me tomaba otra marmaría que me prepararon los del hotel.
