Lonely Planet review for Egyptian Museum
Don’t hope to see everything in the Egyptian Museum in one go. It simply cannot be done. Instead, plan on making at least two visits, maybe tackling one floor at a time, or decide on the things you absolutely must see and head straight for them. In peak season (much of winter and all public holidays), there’s no best time to visit as the museum heaves with visitors throughout the day; lunchtime and late afternoons can be a little quieter.

Overwhelming but wonderful
humbucker recommends this,
Most of the exhibits are poorly labelled, maps and directions are hard to find and the whole place is overflowing with a jumble of antiquities. But oh, what a jumble. The Tutankamun collection is a must but don't miss the reliefs, paintings and statues of Atenakin and his wife Nefertiti. The rest of the time we ambled aimlessly and went from one cabinet to the next with thrilling finds at every turn.
