If you don't want to put your head under the water, you can still get an idea of some of the life in the Red Sea's waters at the aquarium. It's just north of the public hospital in Ad-Dahar and has a reasonable, if somewhat neglected selection of fish and other marine creatures.

The main option for enjoying sand and sea is to go to one of the resorts, most of which charge nonguests for beach access. One of the best is the Jasmine Village, which has a small reef that allows you to combine snorkelling with sunbathing.
