Lonely Planet review for Salahadeen
Salahadeen offers a set menu of Egyptian dishes, served as if it were an Egyptian home – knives and forks are offered but guests are encouraged to eat in the Egyptian way by dipping bread in the various dishes. There are two choices, the ‘platter’ (E£85), which includes three courses with14 dishes of fresh home-cooked food to share, or the ‘Feast’ (E£125) with five courses including 25 different dishes. Most dishes consist of vegetables, and the vegetarian options are not cooked in a meat broth as in so many other places. The bar opens for pre-dinner drinks at 6pm, and alcohol is available in the restaurant, too.

Best meal we had in Egypt!
figlet recommends this,
We not only had the pleasure of staying at Mara house but eating at Salahadeen. It was by far the best food we had during our trip to Egypt. The meal started with 2 delicious soups. We were then served about 15 dishes consisting of vegetarian and meat dishes as well as various dips to try and a large basket of flat bread. We also got an explanation of what was served and some suggestions for eating it. During our travels in various parts of Egypt I found the food to be very under seasoned. Not here. The quality and taste of the food was excellent. I wished I could just keep eating! There was so much food; my husband and I were unable to finish it all. This was followed by a dessert of fresh fruit and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some tea. The dining room is beautiful with Egyptian furnishings and the service was excellent. We ate here the next night as well and enjoyed it just as much. Most of the dishes were different from the previous night. My only disappointment was that I could not eat here on our last night because they were not serving dinner. There was so much variety and such good quality I did not want to eat anywhere else. If you are staying in Luxor and want a high quality authentic Egyptian meal, this is the place to come. The restaurant is located in an Egyptian neighborhood on the opposite side of the train tracks from the Corniche. I understand that some taxi drivers may not know where it is. When you call for reservations, I recommend having Mara send a taxi to your hotel to pick you up. It is also about a 10-15 minute walk from Luxor temple if you enjoy walking off the beaten path. We walked everywhere on the East Bank and felt very safe. Bon appetite!
Good for: High quality egyptian food.

Authentic Egyptian food in tranquil surroundings
miichtan recommends this,
We were looking forward to trying traditional egyptian food but it was difficult to find. At the Salahadeen not only did we find the home cooking we were after but we were also spoilt for choice when not one but 15 different dishes arrived for us to try! The soup was excellent and with an array of both vegetarian and meat dishes to try there is something to please everyone.
Good for: Authentic Egyptian food
Not good for: burgers and fries

Wonderful food, people and atmosphere!
jpantone recommends this,
Salahadeen is a delightful change from the predictable hotel restaurants, and the standard tourist fare in most restaurants. Located in Mara House (q.v.) Salahadeen is a fixed menu type affair, there are several menus, which rotate from night to night. Three courses are served; appetizer/salad, main dishes, and dessert. All of the offerings are exquisite; authentic Egyptian dishes and local market fresh.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, decorated in Egyptian motif. The staff are friendly and responsive.
We unreservedly recommend Salahadeen.

This wasn't our first visit to the Salahadeen Restaurant, and it certainly won't be our last! The place is stunning, and the food and service is in keeping with the general high quality.
I've actually already written a comprehensive review at:
