Lonely Planet review for Oasis Café
Set in a renovated 1930s building right in the centre of town, the Oasis is a good place to recover from the bustle of Luxor town, from the heat or from sightseeing. The dining rooms are cool with fans, high ceilings and old tiled floors, painted in soft colours with local artwork on the walls, and furnished with traditional-style furniture. With jazz softly playing, smoking and nonsmoking rooms, the New Yorker to read and friendly staff, this is the perfect place for lunch, to linger over a good morning latte or to spend the afternoon reading. The place is very Western, but in a nice way like your favourite cafe back home. The food is good too, with an extensive brunch menu and a regular menu of international dishes, including pastas (E£20 to E£30), grilled meats (E£47 to E£60), filling sandwiches (E£25), daily specials on the blackboard and a wide selection of pastries.

Tasty Food in a very up-market setting.

The food and service are both great. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and tasteful decor. It was a nice change from the the stuffy 5-star buffets and the local dives.I had the best Caesar salad topped off with home baked banana bread and capuccino...yummy! !There were enough vegetarian dishes on the menu to satisfy us non-carnivores. I met the American owner, David, who seemed a very charming host and just as much at "home" here as Manhattan's Upper West Side , LA or Boston. I met some English friends for lunch and the Oasis seemed like a very convivial meeting place. This was my first visit to the Oasis Cafe, and I am going to recommend it for all my tour groups during our Luxor visits. Can't wait to go back and try the home baked chocolate cake!

To the writer of the review below, you were conned by a former employee who has opened up an ersatz Oasis in our old location. The real Oasis Cafe is on St. Joseph St.. Go up Khalid ibn al-Waleed St and just before the Sonesta Hotel on your right, you'll see the St. Joseph Hotel on the left. Turn down this street and Oasis is half-way down the block. Same great food and service; telephone is 017-595-4667. As for George, the manager.

The experience was much better when owner David was present.
nebmaatre2011 does not recommend this,
On both our visits the place was clean and the food was all right without being exceptional. However, with American owner David present, the service was attentive without being obtrusive.
On our second visit he was away, and we were hovered over and swooped on repeatedly - several times the waiter tried to take our glasses when we clearly weren't finished yet. The plate was whipped away before the last morsel actually got to my mouth. We were then stood over for immediate payment and subjected to the old "no change" routine when I presented a LE100 note for a LE80 bill. I felt uncomfortable and harassed.
