Lonely Planet review

Irish Mara wanted to open a home for travellers and seems to have succeeded with spacious rooms, each decorated in local style, and including a sitting area and a clean bathroom. Some of the accommodation is small flats, particularly good for families. This is a very popular option so book well ahead in the winter season.

The modern house, in a real Egyptian neighbourhood right behind the train station, can be hard to find but call for instructions or a free transfer. Mara also runs Salahadeen, a popular Egyptian restaurant where the food is served as it is in Egyptian homes.

Our independent authors have visited Mara House and selected this as one of our recommended guesthouses in Luxor.
