Day 1 Cairo
If you arrive early there are plenty of things to see and do in this amazing city. Visit the Saladin Citadel of Cairo one of the most popular attractions in the city, or to really get a feel for the place, get lost in the bazaars and join the locals for a coffee in a local cafe. Day 2 Cairo/Alexandria (1B)
We begin with one of the key highlights of any visit to Egypt, the Great Pyramids of Giza. While once located in remote desert, they now touch the suburbs of modern Cairo. Also visit the mysterious Sphinx, with its lion’s body and man’s face. In the afternoon we drive to Alexandria, where we will spend the next two evenings. Day 3 Alexandria (1B)
We have plenty of time to explore all the incredible sites this ancient city has to offer. Founded by Alexander the Great around 331BC, Egypt's only Mediterranean city is characterized by a distinctly European atmosphere and a refreshing sea breeze. Don't miss the chance to enjoy an optional seafood dinner at one of the city's many outdoor seaside restaurants this evening. Day 4 Alexandria/Cairo (1B, 1D)
Head back to Cairo with a tour inside the monasteries of Wadi Natrun en route. Visit the Egyptian Museum with the option to see the mummy room before boarding our overnight sleeper train to Aswan. Additional Notes: Please note that you should be modestly dressed this morning with shoulders and knees covered for our visit to the monastery. Included Activities: Monasteries of Wadi Natrun Visit Egyptian Museum Visit Transport: Private Vehicle (4.00 hour(s)) Our accommodation will be in comfortable twin-share bunk-bed compartments with lockable doors. The beds convert into seats when not in use and luggage is stored under the bottom bunk. Bedding is provided and there is a small wash basin with soap and towel provided. Shared toilet facilities are at the end of each carriage. A simple “airline style” dinner is provided, but most guests prefer to eat before boarding the train. Non-alcoholic drinks are available for purchase and there is a bar car for socializing. Overnight train (beds) (12.00 hour(s))
Day 5 Cairo/Aswan (1B, 1D)
Aswan has a distinctively African feel to it. Small enough to walk around and graced with the most beautiful setting on the Nile, the pace of life is slow and relaxing. Late in the afternoon, board a local boat, known as a felucca, to take a trip along the Nile. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the river in this busy port city. Our final stop is on the largest of the Nile islands in this area to enjoy a traditional dinner at a local home. Included Activities: Felucca Sail to Nubian Village
Day 6 Aswan (1B, 1L, 1D)
Early in the morning, fly to the famed temples of Abu Simbel for a guided tour. Later, board our river cruise ship for the night. Opt to visit the Aswan high dam. Included Activities: Abu Simbel Visit (Flight) 3-night Nile Cruise Transport: Plane (0.50 hour(s)) Plane (0.50 hour(s))
Day 7 Aswan/Kom Ombo (1B, 1L, 1D)
Following breakfast, we set sail. Before too long it is time for our first shore excursion, with a visit to Kom Ombo, a temple dedicated to Sobek the crocodile god. It still contains an ancient mummified crocodile. Included Activities: 3-night Nile Cruise Kom Ombo Temple Visit
Day 8 Kom Ombo/Luxor (1B, 1L, 1D)
Enjoy an excursion in Edfu, travelling by horse-drawn buggy to visit the very well preserved Temple of Horus. Additional Notes: Our boat will moor overnight just outside of Luxor this evening. Included Activities: 3-night Nile Cruise Edfu Temple Visit
Day 9 Luxor (1B)
After checking in to our hotel, our day starts with a visit to the exciting ancient sites located on Luxor's West Bank and the famed Valley of the Kings. View key sites and opt to visit the the Tomb of Tutankhamun, whose treasures you saw at the Egyptian Museum. Additional Notes: *If you have pre-booked the Valley of the Kings Hot Air Balloon Ride you will be flying on Day 9. Day 10 Luxor (1B, 1D)
Enjoy an excursion to the magnificent temple of Karnak, then use free time to explore the Luxor Temple or museums. In the evening, enjoy dinner in a local family's home. Included Activities: Karnak Temple Visit Transport: Private Vehicle
Day 11 Luxor/Cairo (1B)
Upon arrival in Cairo, the choice is yours. Opt to visit the Khan El Khalili Bazaar, legendary for fine brassware, copper, perfumes, leather, silver, gold, antiques, and more; or head out to Cairo's most ancient area, Coptic Cairo or perhaps relax by the hotel pool. An optional farewell dinner and show on one of Cairo’s famous floating restaurants is also available. Transport: Plane (1.00-1.50 hours)
Day 12 Cairo (1B)
Depart at any time. Additional Notes: Please note that check-out time from the hotel is normally mid-morning, but luggage storage facilities are available. We are able to organise extra post-trip accommodation if you wish to extend your stay for a few more days. Included Activities: Departure Day
