Grand Egyptian Museum
Grand Egyptian Museum information
In 2002, amidst much pomp and circumstance, Egyptian President Mubarak laid the ceremonial foundation for the Grand Egyptian Museum , the cornerstone of an ambitious project aimed at redefining the Giza Plateau. Located just two kilometres from the Great Pyramids, the GEM is intended to serve as a state-of-the-art showcase for the country’s finest antiquities. In addition to relieving the Egyptian Museum of its overcrowded displays, the GEM will also provide proper climate control, something that the Egyptian Museum is at present sorely lacking.
