Four kilometres south of the Pyramids, next to the Maryutia Canal on the road to Saqqara, the Wissa Wassef Art Centre specialises in distinctive woollen rugs and wall hangings depicting rural and folkloric scenes. The attractive complex comprises a museum, workshops and sales galleries. Wissa Wassef rugs are now very much imitated and you can buy similar ones at most souvenir shops, but you'll find the greatest choice here.

To get here, take a microbus or taxi from Pyramids Rd in the direction of Saqqara and get off when you see the blue 'Harraniyya' sign. The centre is next to the canal on the western side of the road and the workshop is closed on Fridays.
