This friendly hotel is very basic, with fans (no air-con) and shared bathrooms, but the location makes up for these shortcomings for travellers on a tight budget who want a Downtown address. Even if you're determined to score centrally located budget digs in Cairo, it's probably advisable to shut your eyes during the rickety lift ride to the sixth floor.
The stairwell filth and missing door of the lift are not encouraging signs and may see you heading straight back down, but once inside this small (awful-green-coloured) hotel, the reception is friendly. You soon discover that the hotel is really just a hallway with rooms off it, with all rooms having fans and share bathroom. One bathroom has a shower and one has a bath. The hotel primarily caters to backpackers and students who don't seem to mind peeling paint and threadbare sheets, but in the height of summer the heat becomes an issue for even the most blasé traveller.

New Minerva Hostel is a western style hostel located in the heart of downtown Cairo. We are located minutes away from the Egyptian museum, and within walking distance of the metro and bus stations. We offer clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, spacous rooms, all with fans and our kitchen is always available to our guests. We have a 24 hour reception desk where our friendly and professional staff can provide you with travel and tourist information. We can arrange custom made tours for you to Giza, Saaqara, Memphis or any other place in Cairo. Trips can be arranged to Aswan and Luxor (from one day to 7) and also to the Western Desert, Sinai (Red Sea), and more. Transfers to and from the airport can also be booked through us.
