    There are numerous grilled-chicken joints along Alonso de Mercadillo, west of Bolívar, where you can pick up a quarter-chicken with soup and fries for about around US$2 . Pavi Pollo is a good one.

    North of downtown, this is the place for traditional food from Loja. Cuy comes roasted whole in around US$8 , around US$10 or around US$12 sizes. They also serve a traditional chicken dish called gallina cuyada and cecina . Take an 'El Valle' bus from Avenida Universitaria at Parque Bolívar.
