Lonely Planet review for Tiestos

Though a hair on the pricey side, one reader claimed they're the best steaks in Ecuador. Formerly known as Las Brasas de San Juan, this grill house is lovely, the owners are friendly and you definitely get what you pay for. Pizzas and pastas too.

    Fantastic meal

    peterandels recommends this,

This place has a fabulous atmosphere and the food and service are outstanding. We ate there and had personal attention from the chef; we accepted his recommendation as to what to choose (lomo medallions topped with tomato slices and a cream sauce) and it was fantastic, served sizzling on a ceramic platter. The meat was meltingly tender and the accompaniments were excellent also. We saw other people eating langoustines served the same way and they looked amazing too, so this isn't just a steak place by any means. The deserts are also spectacular! We had a main course for two, two glasses of excellent wine and a shared postre for about $24. While this is expensive compared to the basic lunches you can get here for $1.50 it's in a completely different league and we thought it was amazing value. Oh, and you get lovely fresh French bread with a whole range of little dishes before you even order!

    Brilliant food and brilliant service

    addeveson recommends this,

My husband & I ate here twice during our stay in Cuenca. We highly recommend this restaurant. The chef, Jose, is very passionate about food, and his waiter is passionate about service. The steaks were outstanding and the desserts / coffees were also outstanding. Highliy recommended. Not super expensive. We had main, glass of wine, dessert and coffee each, for < US $40. We are budget travellers but we thought it was a fantastic splurge that won't break the budget too much.
