  2. My Travel & Business Year in Review

    Blog: GoBackpacking - 28 December 2011

his year passed in the blink of an eye. Or at least that’s how it feels looking back. I’m lucky enough to say I’ve done exactly what I wanted to do, and had a great time doing it. This year had its share of low points too, however by surviving them all, they only served to [...]--------- Join Travel Blog Success today and learn to build a better travel blog. 4. The Problem with Quito

    Blog: Twenty-Something Travel - 18 December 2011

Quito is a pretty city. Like really, really pretty:   It’s over 500 years old, built by conquistadors on the site of an old Inca City. The huge old town is full of elegant buildings and elaborate churches built by different orders of missionaries. It was the very first city to be designated an UNESCO [...]

  5. Quito, Ecuador – the Middle of the World, Sort Of

Blog: Hole In The Donut - 24 November 2011

Quito enjoys a fair share of fame. Its elevation of 9,200 feet makes it the second highest administrative capital city (after La Paz, Bolivia) and the highest legal capital in the world. It is also the only capital located directly beneath an active volcano, Pichincha, which erupted as recently as 2006, sprinkling ash over the [...]

  6. Chocolate Addict Meets Master Chocolatier

Blog: Hole In The Donut - 18 November 2011

I have few remaining vices in life. I don’t smoke, drink, use drugs, gamble or even eat meat, but when it comes to chocolate I am a self-confessed addict, so when master chocolatier Jeffrey Stern left a comment on my blog inviting me to “come by for some chocolate and to learn about the cacao [...]

  14. Wonderful, forgetable Quito. Ecuador

    Blog: Chronicles of a year-long break-up - 20 September 2010

When compared with the rest of South America’s major cities Quito seems to shrink into the shadows. Its elevated sprawl is dwarfed by that of La Paz in Bolivia, its colonial beauty belittled by Arequipa in Peru, its churches unremarkable next to those of Córdoba in Argentina, its Incan importance miniscule after a visit to [...]

  15. Bad blogger!

    Blog: Cogs Watch - 19 May 2010

Believe it or not, it's been three weeks since our visit to the Amazon and we've covered a lot of ground in the meantime. In fact, we've moved countries, we're now in Colombia! For us, constant moving around subsequently leads to blog neglect. I'm trying my best to rectify the situation with a report of the last few weeks, not only to keep Mum happy, but for my own records when I get home.

  16. 第六十二天:悶納的首都

Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 19 April 2010

  17. Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

    Blog: Cogs Watch - 16 April 2010

Ok, so there weren't any tigers but there were four lions (actually six, after the birth of two cubs), and a paddington bear look-alike who scaled the walls of his enclosure like a mini MacGyver. Only in Ecuador (or South America generally) could you volunteer to work so closely with these types of animals.

  18. Day 61 & 62: Hongkies in Quito!

Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 13 April 2010

La Ronda - restored 17th century houses in Quito's old town Day 61 Thanks to no hiccups on the road or border crossing, we've successfully made it to Quito in perfect timing with a couple old friends from home who happen to be in the city at the same time. We were particularly looking forward to this day – none of us would’ve imagined our paths crossing in another corner of the world! Seeing

  19. Leaving Colombia and crossing the Equator to Quito, Ecuador

    Blog: Trip Down - 2 April 2010

I left Pasto and drove the short steep windy Pan-American highway drive to Rumichaca (the border crossing near Ipiales, Colombia and Tulcan, Ecuador) but first stopped at the pastiche church of Las Lajas. A 10 minute walk down the overly-tourist heavy path (it is the beginning of Semana Santa) and then some bad chorizo [...]

    Blog: Hecktic Travels - 26 March 2010

Yep, I said it. I just invented a new word - ¨Lazies¨ (at least my spell-checker won´t accept it)! You can guess the meaning behind it, if not from the brevity of this post, but also from it´s lack of pictures. We took a break from our tough jobs as tourists.
