    El Pobre Diablo makes for a great escape from the Mariscal scene. It's a friendly, laid-back place with live jazz (check which nights), wooden tables, a great vibe and a solid cocktail menu. There's also a restaurant serving delectable dishes such as pork chops in a cilantro sauce, vegetable lasagna and shrimp in coconut sauce.

    French-owned Vox Populi is the hippest, slickest bar in the Centro Histórico (hell, it's one of the hippest in Quito). It features excellent live music from Cuban son (a slow, rhythmic dance) to Latin jazz. Get on down to a jam and start posing!
