For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

Hi All,
I'm planing my trip to Chile on October. Thirst part I will spend in a north chile (San Pedro de Atacama-La Serena area) and then I thought to go to Puerto Natales and spend there some time. When travelling, I mostly prefer to go to places, stay there for a few days or more and explore the area. Without long tracks. I thought to take 1-2 one day trips.

So, here is a few things I want to ask.
1. what is the best way to go from La Serena to Puerto Natales?
- If by flight, can I buy tickets…

Hello,
The new LP guide book for Bolivia claims that it could be a good option to start the above mentioned tour in Tupiza instead of Uyuni.
We are thinking of a 4 day tour returning to Tupiza. Do you really see more then doing it from Uyuni?
Any recommendations for tour operators based in Tupiza doing the tour? Costs?
Is it difficult for the tour companies based in Tupiza to get people together for the tour?
We are two and travelling to Bolivia in mid September.
Thanks for your comments.

Hello everyone,

this may have been asked before, but anyway:
I'm planning to go to South America in January - +/- a week in Bolivia and three weeks in Chile. Chile is surely fine weather-wise, but how feasible is Bolivia in the rainy season? The plan is to take a straightforward Santa Cruz-Sucre-Potosí-Uyuni trip and go overland from Uyuni to Calama/Antofagasta etc. Sta. Cruz-Sucre will be by plane.
I traveled in Peru/Bolivia in November before (many years ago); I remember it being rather wet…

My friend and I are planning on hiking the W in Torres del Paine. Fantastico Sur offers a pre-paid package which includes accomodation in refugios and transportation to/from the park but it's far more expensive than booking the refugios independently. I've seen that refugios are easy to book online but what about transport to and from the park? Is there a way to book the buses in advance? And what about the ferry? And if not, how much in advance does it book out? It would suck to have booked all…

Hello everyone,

I've read a lot that to avoid spending too much on buying food in Easter Island, it'll be best to do some shopping first in Santiago and take it onto the island. However, I'm actually flying from Tahiti. Has anyone tried bringing food in from French Polynesia and if so, what are the items that will be confiscated on arrival?

Can I bring in fresh meat, canned food, eggs, milk, fruits, bread, jam?

Thanks everyone
