For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
Need help to take the easiest way to enter La Paz from Puno after visiting Islands on Lake Titicaca. Could we travel
from across to Copacabana then take a bus to La Paz? Our Spanish is very limited, the hydrofoil from Puno with
Leon Tours taking 13 hours maybe a ok. Would like to hear from anyone that has done it. We will be there around
Sept 20th or about in Puno. Hoping to hear from soon.
I am planning to travel around South America, and with the Darien Gap etc. (I'm in Mexico), I'm thinking of buying a cheap car in Brazil and taking it from there. Can anyone tell me the logistics of buying a car in Brazil and the sort of price I should expect - I'm looking for a real cheap car, I don't care what it looks like as long as it can hold together for at least 6 months. All and any details, including insurance stuff, would be much appreciated!
I will be at a conference in the Moviestar Arena which is in Parque O'Higgins - it seems a fairly large park so was thinking I might hire a bike.
I have read about SantiagoBike but my Spanish is very poor, can anyone explain how I get one of their cards?
Also are there any nearby bike rental shops - the only one I can find is La Bicicleta Verde but they charge US$24 a day which is little steep.
Turcol is reviewed as a good agency for tours around Santa Marta. However, we had a very bad experience on our three day tour to Punta Gallinas because we were joined in with another agency (which offered much less service) as Turcol had no places available anymore but did not inform us about this. Be sure if you book with Turcol you actually go with Turcol.
After our three day tour we went back to the Turcol office to explain our dissatisfaction. Eventually we were asked to e-mail the boss…
I have read an old blog that talked about being able to get a visa for Paraguay from the Paraguay Consulate in Buenos Aieres. The wait time is only 24 hours. I haven't been able to confirm this with my nearest embassy, which is Australia. Does anyone know if this is still possible?
I am planning a trip to Patagonia next year with my wife, and want to check we have our timing for Torres del Paine about right.
We are looking to arrive there in late October, and we would like to do the W trek. What we have provisionally planned is that we will first arrive in Puerto Natales and stay there one night. The next day we will get a bus to the starting point for the W trek on the Glacier Grey side at campsite Paso. From there, we will trek five days and camp four nights…
