For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

Hi,

I will be at a conference in the Moviestar Arena which is in Parque O'Higgins - it seems a fairly large park so was thinking I might hire a bike.

I have read about SantiagoBike but my Spanish is very poor, can anyone explain how I get one of their cards?

Also are there any nearby bike rental shops - the only one I can find is La Bicicleta Verde but they charge US$24 a day which is little steep.

Thanks

Rocky

Turcol is reviewed as a good agency for tours around Santa Marta. However, we had a very bad experience on our three day tour to Punta Gallinas because we were joined in with another agency (which offered much less service) as Turcol had no places available anymore but did not inform us about this. Be sure if you book with Turcol you actually go with Turcol.

After our three day tour we went back to the Turcol office to explain our dissatisfaction. Eventually we were asked to e-mail the boss…

We are looking for a decent clean hotel in Santiago for one or two nights that won't break the bank in November any suggestions?

Hello
I have read an old blog that talked about being able to get a visa for Paraguay from the Paraguay Consulate in Buenos Aieres. The wait time is only 24 hours. I haven't been able to confirm this with my nearest embassy, which is Australia. Does anyone know if this is still possible?
thank you
Jenny

Hi guys,

I am planning a trip to Patagonia next year with my wife, and want to check we have our timing for Torres del Paine about right.

We are looking to arrive there in late October, and we would like to do the W trek. What we have provisionally planned is that we will first arrive in Puerto Natales and stay there one night. The next day we will get a bus to the starting point for the W trek on the Glacier Grey side at campsite Paso. From there, we will trek five days and camp four nights…

Hi everyone,

Next year my wife and I are taking a year out to travel. In October and November 2017, we have a 25-day stretch in Patagonia, starting in Ushuaia and ending back in Buenos Aires. I have been trying to plan our itinerary, and am having problems finding up-to-date information on how to get around.

What we have planned so far leaves us with a five day gap between leaving El Calafate and arriving in Puerto Madryn. We are quite unsure what to do with these days, and how best to travel…

La Paz

Hi everyone. I am traveling to La Paz next week and need advice on good hostels. Anyone know any cheap hostels relatively close to the city center? Also, do you recommend booking in advance or can I do that when I arrive?
