Earthquake in Ecuador

There was a large earthquake (7.8) tonight near Cojimies (between Mompiche and Pedernales). It was shallow and it was felt right through the country. It was 6.4 in Quito, but no major damage was reported other than some power outages. Guyaquil was hit hard, there's a lot of damage reported, at least one overpass collapsed and so far one death officially. Manta has suffered too, the airport is closed, the control tower collapsed, 10 deaths reported in the city. Portoviejo too, with 18 deaths…

Hi !
I´m going to visit São Luís in september. From there I want to go to Santo Amaro which is very close to the Lenções Maranhenses . But how can I get there ?!?!
I heard there is no bus, only Pick-ups which can go on the rough and sandy road. But where can I find the company in São Luís which is going to Santo Amaro by pickups ?
Has anybody been there recently, and if so, how did you manage to find the pickup-company ?
Any suggestions for a budget acomodation in Santo Amaro ?

Thanks for helping…

I am planning to be in Cartagena for a couple of weeks at the end of January 2017 and am wondering about overall safety on the 4 day trek to the Lost City. I saw some posts early last year about robberies etc. in the towns preceding the trek and am concerned for my overall safety. If anyone has completed this trip in recent months I would be interested to read your comments. I will be 64, relatively fit ( I generally hike 8-12 miles a day when in Europe, but I usually use walking poles over…

Hello! My husband and I will be making many stops around South America for our honeymoon, and one of the stops is to trek at Torres del Paine. We plan on arriving in Punta Arenas (flying from Santiago, Chile) on December 24th. I saw where you can take buses from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales. I have a couple of questions about all of this process:
(1) Are the buses still operating on December 24th and December 25th? I didn't know if they would be or not, since it is Christmas-time. (2) If the…

Hi! I'm Brazilian, and I'm going to study in Chile (Santiago) next month, until December/2016.

Does anyone have some tips to give me or some acquainted that lives in the town to present me?

Thanks!

Galapagos Tours

We have been looking at various companies but have not done actual requests.

Does anyone know if SCUBA diving can be included as an add-on with a tour company? Is it unreasonable to consider diving versus snorkeling? If diving is available, are there specific recommended sites?
Seeing the types of boats, is there any advantage to taking one with sailing capability, for more stability in seas? Or is there an advantage with a large power boat to get to the sites faster, avoiding crowds as much as…

Hello, everyone. I plan on climbing Mt. Aconcagua this coming December. I'm hoping I can receive some suggestions/advice on a good tour company to go with. I'm not looking for anything luxorious, fancy or expensive. I've done a few high altitude treks(kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, etc), but Aconcagua will be the biggest and hardest I've ever trekked. I will be on a budget, so I'm hoping to find a reputable company that won't be too expensive. Any tips and or advice will be greatly appreciated…
