For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

Just learn from my friend after returning from Bolivia, had not received a stamp of entry on her passport. As result she was not allowed to leave the country unless she gets a certified cheque at the bank for $50.00 US.. She was not told
about the stamp on her arrival in Bolivia. PLEASE be aware. Love the country of Bolivia.

Hi everyone,

I am planning to travel to Argentina and Chile covering mainly Buenos Aires, Santiago and Southern Patagonia regions of El Calafate, El Chalten, Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales. I would be covering the main attractions of Perito Moreno, Torres del Paine, Fitz Roy range as recommended by the Lonely Planet books of Chile and Argentina.

I will be flying into El Calafate (FTE) from Buenos Aires and visiting the nearby attractions. Based on my research of the region, it seems like…

My partner and I are going to Colombia for ten days over Thanksgiving (mid-late Nov). We're planning on checking out Bogota and Cartagena and I'm wondering if one has better weather than the other at that time of year -- I know it's the end of the low season so some rain is inevitable, but would it make sense to spend more time in one city than the other? I've also heard some conflicting information on the amount of rain to prepare for -- is this monsoon style, like an all day downpour, or more…

Hi everyone,

Firstly, thank you to regular contributors - I have been stalking these pages for a month or two now, and it has helped shaped my itinerary enormously. We (couple mid 30s from London UK) will be in Colombia for 3 weeks between 14th December and 4th January. We are coming to Colombia for nature (I was a childhood birdwatcher and am keen to do at least one tour), Caribbean beaches, countryside, colonial towns and interesting cities. We both study Spanish and are up to intermediate…

Hi all,

My partner and I have 1 afternoon/evening in Puno in September and are interested in getting out onto the lake so wondered if anyone has any tips? We arrive in Puno at about 2pm and are booked into Hotel Sonesta Posadas. We leave Puno the next morning at 8am so aren't able to do an overnight tour of the lake.

We wondered if anyone has recommendations for just a boat trip around the lake, or a trip out to Amantini? We're not so interested in going onto the Uros Islands simply because…
