For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

Hi there, travellers!
I'm Sasha, a 32 years old architect, who found a wonderful Cruise around Patagonia and Antarctica. It lasts 21 days starting from Santiago in Chile, sailing through Patagonia with stops in Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas to see thousands of penguins, then going all the way to Antarctica to meet incredible icebergs and through Falkland islands (Malvinas) moving up to Buenos Aires in Argentina. Antarctica is my dream, so when I found a cruise that costs around 3000$ for three…

I am looking for suggestions of day trips from Rio de Janeiro. I will be there in November while my significant other attends a conference. I am looking for any suggestions outside of Rio that would include travel there and back in 1 day by car/train/bus. I am a photographer and enjoy finding small towns, old city centers and interesting architecture.

Have any ideas?

Thank very much!

Hola hola !!

I am currently travelling around south America although stopping in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the next 6 months. I want to get a deva cut or go to a salon that specialises in cutting curly hair as my hair is type 3c curls. I usually get my hair cut every 6 weeks and I don't want that to change whilst travelling !! Can anyone put me in contact with any local hairdressers in Buenos Aires who may be able to help?

Thanks
Alex

Hello everyone,
I am currently planning a 16 day trip to South America (I'd like to take more time off but unfortunately I can't) and was wondering what experiences you have with travelling through Uruguay. I was thinking of flying to Montevideo, then traveling up the coast a bit. From Uruguay, I'd like to go up to Brazil, maybe to Florianopolis, and from there to Iguazu. I haven't booked anything yet, so I'm either thinking of going to Buenos Aires from Iguazu and flying back from there or going…

We are taking the 07h45 train from Santiago to Chillan (we want to take one train journey in Chile), then onwards to either Los Angeles or to Temuco. The train is scheduled to arrive in Chillan at 12h40 and the buses depart Chillan at 2pm and 4pm taking 1h30 or 3hrs to Los Angeles or to Temuco respectively (it is the same bus on Tur bus)..

If we spend 3 hours in Chillan, then we go to Los Angeles, if we stop briefly, an hour in Chillan, we can go on to Temuco. Should we have a leisurely lunch…

Hi there.

Just wondering if it's possible to get tickets at Aguas Calientes or if we have to book in advance for visiting Machu Piccu in january next year. Second, is it even worth visiting around that time and if so, is it possible to get there by walking the inca trail or the less known alternative ar at least the bus>collectivo>walking/ local train way. I think $70 for this trainride is a bit steep and I'd rather spend the money on other things than a train company.

Cheers,

Remboman

We will be arriving on Easter Island in December for 3 days, after we continue to Santiago, Chile. If we apply for our tourist visa on arrival do they require proof of a return flight leaving from Chile? We are planning on traveling overland and we haven't booked any flights after Chile. Is this gonna be an issue? Or would a busticket to Peru or Argentina be enough?

How would it work with other countries in South America entering them by land rather than flying in?

Thanks!
