For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
My partner and I are going to Colombia for ten days over Thanksgiving (mid-late Nov). We're planning on checking out Bogota and Cartagena and I'm wondering if one has better weather than the other at that time of year -- I know it's the end of the low season so some rain is inevitable, but would it make sense to spend more time in one city than the other? I've also heard some conflicting information on the amount of rain to prepare for -- is this monsoon style, like an all day downpour, or more…
Firstly, thank you to regular contributors - I have been stalking these pages for a month or two now, and it has helped shaped my itinerary enormously. We (couple mid 30s from London UK) will be in Colombia for 3 weeks between 14th December and 4th January. We are coming to Colombia for nature (I was a childhood birdwatcher and am keen to do at least one tour), Caribbean beaches, countryside, colonial towns and interesting cities. We both study Spanish and are up to intermediate…
My partner and I have 1 afternoon/evening in Puno in September and are interested in getting out onto the lake so wondered if anyone has any tips? We arrive in Puno at about 2pm and are booked into Hotel Sonesta Posadas. We leave Puno the next morning at 8am so aren't able to do an overnight tour of the lake.
We wondered if anyone has recommendations for just a boat trip around the lake, or a trip out to Amantini? We're not so interested in going onto the Uros Islands simply because…
I hope you all are fine, I am going to Colombia from 1st to 11th August. First, I am arriving in Bogotá by plane, inmediately after that I am planning to go to Zona Cafetera (Armenia, Pereira and Manizales) or to the Coastal Region (Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta), what option would you choose? I have read about the Zona Cafetera cities and they are very interesting, can anyone help me or tell me about the coastal cities? I would really appreciate any help. I suppose…
I'm heading to Argentina for work in october and I'm going to extend my trip for a week. I'm planning to go to Iguazu and stay in that area. I was looinkg for an ecolodge to stay in the forest for two or three nights as part of that trip. Can you recommend any? I have found some online but they seem to be rather expensive! I'll be a budget traveller.
Me and my girlfriend would like to travel to SE America in December (plane from Kazakhstan). We got used to low-cost travelling (trips in Europe and 2 months in SE Asia). Is SE safe for cautious backpackers (I am 26, she is 23)? We do not intend to stay in big cities and tourist resorts. Is hitchiking doable in SA America ? Is wild camping allowed ?
Hi, we're considering renting a car and driving from BA to Bariloche instead of bus/plane in december, we'll also use the car for some driving around Bariloche, but I'm not yet sure where.
First, does anyone know if a regular car will do, are the roads in general decent, or do we need a car suited for dirt roads?
Second, any suggestions on nice places to sleep along the drive from BA?
Third, any general advice regarding our plan?
Thanks in advance for all answers :)
