Earthquake in Ecuador

There was a large earthquake (7.8) tonight near Cojimies (between Mompiche and Pedernales). It was shallow and it was felt right through the country. It was 6.4 in Quito, but no major damage was reported other than some power outages. Guyaquil was hit hard, there's a lot of damage reported, at least one overpass collapsed and so far one death officially. Manta has suffered too, the airport is closed, the control tower collapsed, 10 deaths reported in the city. Portoviejo too, with 18 deaths…

I have registered for a 5 day jungle tour for 1000 Reals.

Then Gero Tours offered to book the boat through a person by the name of Batista Armstrong who I heard negative things about on LP. But Gero Tours tells me that he works with them.

Armstrong said he could get me a cabin slow boat from Manaus to Tabatingao for 590 Reals. Gero Tours advised that i get a cabin for safety reasons rather than hammock though my choice was hammock. But when I asked for the price of hammock option on the…

Hi all,

Thought it was time we'd shared our travel blog we've been working on as we travel around South America, incase its of any interest to others doing the same:
www.hiato.co.uk

We've been to some incredible places so far, and would love to hear thoughts, comments, or suggestions on places to visit that we may have missed!

Dear fellow travellers,

I am traveling to Brazil this summer. Looking very much forward to six weeks of surfing and exploring. There is however one hickup in my plans: a 6 foot 1 surfboard.

The first three weeks i will be surfing a custom board i got shaped in Rio. I want to bring it home with me to Europe, BUT i cant bring it with me the following three weeks, as i will be doing some hardcore traveling and no surfing. I dont want to drag a boardbag with me through the Amazon! International…

Podocarpus vs. Yasuni

Hi,

I have 3 weeks in Ecuador with the first 10 days already booked in the Galapagos, so I am trying the plan the rest.
I have heard the Amazon is not to be missed, but I am feeling overwhelmed by the prices of the tour packages out of Coca. I am wondering how Podocarpus compares since it seems a bit smaller and more budget friendly.

Thank you for any advice or suggestions!

Hello,

My question is this - I gather you can stay in Peru without a Visa for up to 6 months. After your 6 months are up, how long do you have to be out of the country for before you can return for the same again?

Also, do you need to have an onward ticket when you arrive?

Many thanks
Ed
