Earthquake in Ecuador

There was a large earthquake (7.8) tonight near Cojimies (between Mompiche and Pedernales). It was shallow and it was felt right through the country. It was 6.4 in Quito, but no major damage was reported other than some power outages. Guyaquil was hit hard, there's a lot of damage reported, at least one overpass collapsed and so far one death officially. Manta has suffered too, the airport is closed, the control tower collapsed, 10 deaths reported in the city. Portoviejo too, with 18 deaths…

I've been debating a few different itineraries for my month in Brazil. It's an odd one because for the last 2 weeks, I have friends to visit (Salvador) and will also go to the Olympics for 5-7 days (Rio).

So I've been looking for some new places to see in Brazil: Thinking of Pantanal (Cuiaba and Campo Grande), Amazon (Manaus, Santarem, and/or Belem but Santarem definitely has my attention for its uniqueness during dry season, which just started).
Found surprisingly cheap airfares from GRU to CGB…

My girlfriend, soon to be wife, are planning a big trip. We were first planning on leaving in January 2017 as a honeymoon type of thing and staying away for a year. We were originally planning to be mostly in Asia. However my best friend is getting married in Brazil next October. That is October 2017. I'm his best man and of course I will attend. So this kind of forced us change our plans a little. First I looked if we could go as planned in January, go to the wedding and head back to Asia but…

I'll be staying in the Meier area of Rio during the Olympics, on the west side of the district, not far from Colegio Santa Monica (which is actually in an adjacent district). The Olympic Stadium (aka Nilton Santos) is roughly a 2km walk from my apartment. Is this a safe area of Rio? I plan to walk to and fro during the day and perhaps take a taxi for events finishing after dark. Does this make sense?

Are they safe places in and around Cusco where we can store some luggages for a few days while traveling around?
Thinking some hostels, hotels? I don't even mind a fee as long as it's secure.

Hi. My boyfriend is traveling for a year on his motorbike and I'll be joining him for a month in Peru.
We can't travel together as his luggage, mine and me would be too much on the motorbike.
So I'll have to travel by bus or train in between big cities. Is it safe and easy to get around as I don't speak spanish?
Can buses be booked online?

What would be a great spot as a central place around Cusco for a few weeks? It would be best to have a base but as long as there are tons to see and do from…

Hello!

I am traveling to Peru for 3 weeks in July. I am planning on doing the 2D 1N tour of Colca Canyon. The current plan is to head from Paracas to Arequipa, spend the night in Arequipa. Spend the next day exploring the city, and then that night taking the bus to Chivay and on to Colca Canyon the next morning. After the hike, I will be taking the 4M bus from Chivay to Puno.

My question is, is Arequipa worth visiting? Or should we just skip the city and head straight to Chivay? I have been…
