For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.
I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…
Hi all! Next Friday I have a 8-hour stopover in Santiago de Chile and I would like to get out of the airport and briefly explore the city. I think I'll be only able to spend 4-5 hours there. Can anyone recommend me what is a must-see/must-eat and how to get from and to the airport? I'm a budget traveller (so I look for buses) and I love wandering around, go to markets and just give a walk around.
Thank you so much.
Been in Colombia for a month and just love it. However I am stuck on the Caribbean coast. So far I have been to Cartagena-SantaMarta-Taganga-Minca-lost city-tayrona-palomino.
Thinking of heading to the dessert in the northeast but a lot of people have adviced me to skip that one, plus I will do all of South America so more dessert will appear, so I won't go there.
However, I have no idea where to go now. I will definitely visit both Medellin and Bogota. The coffee triangle would I also…
Hi, so I'm looking at going to South America around this time next year for around 12 weeks. I was looking at starting in Colombia and making my way down to Patagonia, and then flying to Cancun to finish up for a few days. I'll be backpacking. Cancun is much better later in the year hence why I want to finish up there and not go at the start of my trip in September.
However logistically this doesn't make sense. It would make more sense (and be cheaper) to start in the south and make my way up…
Hi there fellow travellers
In a couple of weeks my girlfriend and I will be finally going to Bolivia (for 5 weeks! :D).
We love to do the Illampu Circuit and do some biking in Sorata aswell.
I've searched this forum and the net, but I can't find recent info about the trek/situation/guides etc. Is there anyone on the forum who lives in Sorata? Or has been there very recently? Or has some really contacts there?
All the help will be apreciated very much!!!
Thanks in advance!
I have never been to Chile or Easter Island. Please let me know your opinion if you had 2 weeks where would you go in Chile? What would be the best form of transportation to get from one place to another? I will just spend 2 days in Santiago and I will fly to Easter Island after those two weeks in Chile.
I am an American passport holder who is planning on traveling to Bolivia soon. I am well aware that I need a visa in order to visit the country. I am wondering if I should arrange it beforehand or just get it at the airport.
I am flying from Cusco to La Paz by Peruvian airlines. I have read many Americans stating that getting the visa at the airport was relatively easy. However, I have seen a blog that have stated that Americans have been turned back at the border or by the airline for not…
A friend and I have a start-up and are planning to re-locate for a year to somewhere in Latin America (including, possibly, Belize).
We spent some time in Sayulita (in 2009) and Montanita (in 2012) as travelers and really loved our time there. We appreciated their liveliness, energy, and Bohemian vibes that are uncommon in small towns.
I wanted to ask if anyone who has been to these towns knows of others that are similar.
Ideally we're looking for a place that's accessible from a…
