Lonely Planet review for Casa Hood
Named for owner Ray Hood, a long-standing gringo in residence, this excellent café has nourishing breakfasts, a $2 almuerzo (set lunch) and a menu of Thai, Mexican and Middle Eastern dishes. The Casa is a welcoming place to eat, exchange books, meet with friends, chill solito (alone), and even take yoga classes.

wonderful respite in a wonderful city
bwilliford recommends this,
Casa Hood is one of the best restaurants in Baños, especially if you are looking for a change from the typical Ecuadorian fare along the route. It's one block off one of the main streets (the street behind the supermarket Santa Maria) though once there you'll notice that the extra block's walk is worth it! The atmosphere is warm and inviting with tons of pictures on the wall from previous visitors. There are plenty of different food options--vegetarian, Fish, Poultry, Pasta with at least one typical dish from India, Thailand, Italy, China, Mexico and South America. They serve a full breakfast with options of burritos, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, yogurt and fruits that is filling and cheap (think $3). They have a full line of fresh juices (typical in Ecuador), coffees, cocktails-beer and dessert. Casa Hood also offers a book exchange in Spanish and English. You'll see a lot of "extranjeros" here, though with the new addition of the typical almuerzo ($1.99) more locals are beginning to pop in. The almuerzo is only served for a couple of hours so be sure to arrive before 1pm. Also, they are closed on Tuesdays. In general, whenever I am in Baños I never miss the opportunity to visit Casa Hood.
