Hey, hoping someone has some first hand experience from the last 12 months about the visa requirements for Shengen citizens.

On the one hand I read that there's an agreement in place and citizens from Shengen states can stay 90 days out 180 visa-free. (http://visiteasttimor.com/good-to-know/visa-immigration/ or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_East_Timor

However the Timorese immigration website doesn't mention this (http://www.migracao.gov.tl/html/sub0301.php)

So basically…

So I'm going to East Timor most likely solo. Plan to go for Mt Ramelau. How far can one get there with public transport? Maubessi? Hatu builico? I suppose the plan B will be to walk the 18-20 km to Hatu builico. Is any sort of food arrangement (i.e. for the overnight stay) available in the posada there, or all must be carried from Dili?

What's the approx daily rate for vehicle rental with driver these days? ( I assume for going there must be 4wd)

Since the closing of East Timor Backpackers…

I'm heading to East Timor in September. I'm not planning to do any serious camping/trekking/backpacking, but I was planning to bring a small tent to sleep on the beach across from Jaco Island (Tutuala Beach?) in case there wasn't any accommodation available when I arrived. I usually only travel with carry-on and I can't get an internet consensus on whether tents/poles/stakes are allowed in carry-on. I intend to call the TSA and the airline I'm flying, but if it's not allowed, is there…

Many thanks

Hi. I am visiting East Timor first week of July and will have two weeks afterwards where I could travel around in the region (preferrebly not East Timor) and do some snorkelling, or trekking, or relax, or see animals, or come close to the nature or things like that... I am looking around for interesting alternatives easy accessible from East Timor. Ill return to Europe from Singapore so either I find a trip that can end in Dili from where Ill go to Singapore, or Ill find a place from where I…

Hi,

I'm currently in Berastagi. I'm hoping to spend a couple of days or so exploring interesting Batak villages and maybe doing a bit of hiking, preferably around the northern end of Danau Toba. I'm looking for advice on a good base in the area, and nice villages or regions to explore. Advice on how to get there from Berastagi would also be great. I've been to Tuk-Tuk before and didn't like it; I'm hoping for somewhere notably less touristy.

Many thanks

Hello,
has anyone information about the fast ferry to Oecussi. Can you go to Oecussi on a daytrip? Is the ferry running on a daily basis?
Thanks
Michael

Just wondering about whether the country literally shuts down over Easter or whether its a good time to go to east timor because of from what I've read, pretty wonderful Easter celebrations? And if so, any suggestions on where best to spend time, given the time of year and a desire to be around easter festivities. It seems info is pretty scarce online. I will only be in East Timor for a week unfortunantly.

Also, given the backpackers has closed down. Has anybody stayed at this place https://www

I just emailed TL immigration with all the info they list on their website for the visa authorization letter to enter over land. Has anybody done this recently? Will it actually be issued? How long should it take?

Has anyone used the latest lonely planet East Timor guide and how useful did you find it? I notice it hasn't been updated since 2011 but from what I've been hearing much has changed in the last few years.
