I visited Dominica on mid February. I was very concerned about how to get around the island.
First of all I was afraid on airport transportation. LP guidebook suggests to stay near the airport as the beaches are around. I opted to stay in the capital city of Roseau, and this sounded quite alarming because the airport is at the other end of the island. A fellow traveller insisted that I had to rent a car because "so is the situation in Dominica". What finally happened was much…
I will be in Dominica in April and would love to do some turtle watching. I have found a lot of information online about Rosalie Bay beach, but it seems that this is a private beach owned by the Rosalie Bay Resort.
A Dominica tourist website recommended the beaches around Marigot, Londonderry, Wesley and Calibishie in the northeast, but I cannot find any details of how you organise a turtle watching tour or which beaches are best in those areas.
Does anyone have an advice please? Thank…
We are staying with my brother who has a remote place up in the highlands on Dominica for ten days or so in March.
Having landed in St. Lucia we are travelling to Dominica, but thought we might stay a few days on either Martinique or Guadeloupe on the way back to St Lucia as we are taking the ferry.
Which island would be recommended please.
I will visit Domoinca in February 2016. For some reason I will base myself in Roseau.
The arrival and departure will be at DOM Mellvile Hall airport that is quite a long way.
The obvious question is how to travel between the airport and Roseau.
Thanks a lot for any reasponse.
I will be in Dominica for 12 days. I plan to sleep in Roseau for 4-5 days and visit the southern part of the country; Boiling Lake and adjacent sites.
Then I would like to move to a hotel or guesthouse in a more rural location, close to a village / town. I like nice relaxing views and ambience, but not totally isolated from civilisation, like restaurants.
I will rent a 4 x 4 so can move around. I know the island is small, but I would very much like a rural option rather than spending all the…
I visited Dominica last week, I figured I would do a quick report as there isn't a lot of information here on Dominica.
I flew into Melville Hall airport/air strip. Very small airport, they do have an ATM machine (I think) to change money, a couple of small shops, and a rental car counter.
I rented a car from Avis for about $70 a day. It does seem that this is the best way to get around the island to the national parks and whatnot. I stayed in Portsmouth, it was about an hour's drive from…
Someone else posted a topic in the Martinique forum re the ferry service to Dominica, Express des Iles. As this affects both ends of the ferry, I am pasting my reply to that topic here, as follows (edited for this new topic here):
I am frustrated in trying to find out information about travel from Martinique by ferry. I have heard several conflicting reports. There were two ferry services but now there is only one, Express des Iles. Their website is horrible in any language. It does not work and…
